For developers, the path forward isn’t learning to prompt better, it’s doubling down on the skills AI can’t replicate: system architecture, security modeling, business logic translation, and the judgment to know when AI is confidently wrong.
The 5% of layoffs actually caused by AI represent roles that were likely already automatable—the other 95% represents a market correction that has nothing to do with machine intelligence.
